The Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA) announced the return of the prestigious WTA 250 Chennai Open after a three-year gap.

Scheduled to kick off on October 27, the tournament marks a significant boost for Indian tennis, bringing top-tier international talent back to Chennai.

The last edition in 2022 saw Czechia’s Linda Fruhvirtova clinch the singles title, with Gabriela Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani securing the doubles championship. Played on outdoor hard courts, this year’s event will feature a 32-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles contest, promising intense action for tennis enthusiasts.

Expressing excitement over the tournament’s revival, TNTA president Vijay Amritraj credited the Tamil Nadu government and the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) for their instrumental support. “Our efforts to bring world-class tennis to Chennai have finally materialised. With the enthusiasm of fans, Chennai will offer a memorable experience for players worldwide,” Amritraj stated.

The WTA 250 event is expected to attract rising stars and seasoned champions, amplifying India’s presence in global tennis. The tournament will be broadcast live on major sports channels, ensuring wide coverage.

With Chennai’s rich sporting legacy and fervent tennis community, the return of the Chennai Open is poised to reignite excitement and strengthen India’s standing on the international tennis map.
