Dharakote: A woman was seriously injured after she was allegedly shot by her husband on Wednesday in Rashibada village under Rugumu GP within Badagada PS limits in Dharakote block of Ganjam district.
The injured woman identified as Sailendri Patra is reportedly undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College & Hospital in Berhampur. Her husband Mahadeb Patra, who allegedly opened fire over a trivial issue, is at large following the incident.
According to reports, the couple who earn living by collecting and selling forest produces was en route to the nearby forest today. On their way, a violent quarrel erupted between the duo near the Harabhangi canal.
In a fit of rage, Mahadeb opened fire at her wife. Fortunately, Sailendri survived as the bullet hit her on her shoulder and she collapsed on the ground. In the meanwhile, Mahadeb fled into the nearby forest.
Some locals spotted the critically injured woman and rushed her to Aska hospital in an ambulance. Later she was shifted to MKCG MCH in Berhampur.
On being asked about the incident, Badagada PS IIC Suraj Kumar Jhankar said that the incident is suspected to have occurred due to a family dispute. Further investigation in this regard is underway, he added.
