A shocking incident has emerged from Bhramaramal village under Kesinga Adarsha Police Station in Kalahandi district, where a young woman allegedly died after being poisoned.
The victim, Khirabati Sahu, had been married for less than two years to Jagannath Sahu of the same village.
According to her father, Kautuka Sahu, Khirabati was subjected to mental and physical harassment by her husband and in-laws, who allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh and additional dowry. The situation reportedly worsened in recent days, with Khirabati being denied food and water.
On Wednesday night around 11:30 PM, Kautuka received a phone call from a relative of the in-laws stating that Khirabati had consumed poison and was being taken to Kesinga Hospital. Upon arrival, doctors referred her to Bhawanipatna District Headquarters Hospital due to her critical condition. Sadly, she was declared dead upon arrival.
Kautuka Sahu filed a written complaint at Kesinga Police Station, alleging that his daughter was poisoned by her in-laws. However, Kesinga IIC Jitendra Biswal stated that the woman may have consumed poison due to family disputes, but it remains unclear whether it was self-inflicted or administered by others. The truth will be revealed after the post-mortem report is received.
