Winter conditions across Odisha have eased after several days of intense chill, with no city reporting temperatures below 10°C in the past 24 hours. Despite this brief relief, cold weather continues to grip parts of western and southern Odisha, particularly Kandhamal district, which remains under dense fog and persistent cold.
Kandhamal Remains the Coldest Region
Kandhamal continues to experience significantly lower temperatures compared to the rest of the state. Since early November, the district has frequently reported temperatures below 15°C, with several days dipping under 10°C.
On Monday, the region recorded cloudy skies, heavy fog, and near-zero visibility, with sunlight failing to appear even after 8 a.m. These harsh conditions have disrupted daily life and affected road travel due to reduced visibility. Despite the severe cold, the district still attracts visitors who wish to enjoy the winter ambience.
Twin Cities Witness Mild Conditions
Bhubaneswar and Cuttack reported comparatively warmer conditions, with little impact from the cold wave. The colder weather remains concentrated in districts such as Koraput, Kandhamal, Rayagada, and Nabarangpur.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for fog in these areas as cold and foggy conditions persist.
Cyclone Ditwah Influences Temperature Trend
The presence of Cyclone Ditwah caused a temporary increase in temperatures across parts of Odisha. Meteorologists expect temperatures to fall again once the cyclone’s residual effects subside. Night temperatures may drop to as low as 3–4°C in some regions later this week.
Light rainfall is expected today in the southern districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Rayagada, while the rest of the state is likely to remain dry.
