Odisha is bracing for relief from the relentless heatwave as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a drop in maximum temperatures by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
Western districts of Odisha, notorious for their extreme heat, are expected to benefit significantly from this change in weather.
On Sunday, cities like Jharsuguda, Boudh, and Titlagarh experienced a notable dip in temperatures, ranging from 32°C to 35°C, while urban hubs like Bhubaneswar and Cuttack saw slight increases. However, a low-pressure system, westerly winds, and the Kalbaisakhi effect are predicted to bring thunderstorms, gusty winds, and rainfall to several districts.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for districts including Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, and Bhadrak, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rain. Gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 km/h and hailstorms are also likely in some areas.
The people of Odisha have been urged to take necessary precautions as the weather turns volatile. Farmers and residents alike are hopeful for this spell of rain, which could mitigate the effects of the sweltering heat.
