A suspicious package discovered on Monday afternoon inside Trump Tower triggered a swift response from law enforcement in Midtown Manhattan. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) bomb squad and the United States Secret Service were dispatched to investigate after the item was found in the building’s mailroom at 725 Fifth Avenue.
Police received a 911 call at approximately 4:20 p.m. ET after Secret Service personnel located the package. Bomb technicians secured the area and conducted a precautionary inspection, temporarily impacting traffic in the surrounding area.
Threat Assessed and Area Secured
By just before 6 p.m., authorities reported that the package posed no credible threat, and the situation was cleared. No evacuations or injuries were reported during the incident.
Videos circulating on social media showed a significant police and emergency response, including NYPD vehicles, fire trucks and tactical officers stationed outside the skyscraper. The city’s emergency notification system advised commuters to expect traffic delays, road closures and mass transit disruptions near Fifth Avenue and West 56th Street.
High Alert Amid Broader Security Concerns
Though the package was ultimately deemed harmless, the incident unfolded amid heightened security measures by US law enforcement, partly influenced by escalating geopolitical tensions linked to military operations involving Iran. Officials have not established any connection between this event and broader national security issues.
Anti-war demonstrators were also reported outside Trump Tower Monday evening, but authorities have confirmed no link between the protest activity and the suspicious package.
