The World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) has officially unveiled the Top 50 winners of its Film Poster Making Challenge, an initiative that has garnered attention from artists across India.
From a remarkable pool of 542 digital poster submissions, standout finalists have emerged, ready to be honoured at the much-awaited WAVES Summit in Mumbai from May 1 to 4, 2025.
Digital Poster Making Competition
A rigorous selection process was conducted by an esteemed jury, including photographer Aditya Arya and printmaker Ananda Moy Banerji, alongside co-organisers Imagenation Street Art and the National Film Development Corporation – National Film Archives India. The entries were evaluated based on creativity, originality, and storytelling impact, leading to the selection of 197 semi-finalists and ultimately the top 50 winners.
Among them, three artists stand out for their exceptional work:
- Saptosindhu Sengupta
- Shivangi Sarmah Kashyap
- Suresh D Nair
The final rankings of these talented creators will be announced at the WAVES Summit, where their posters will also be digitally exhibited, offering invaluable exposure to their work.
Celebrating Traditional Poster Art
Beyond the digital challenge, WAVES is also reviving the hand-painted film poster tradition—a practice that once defined Indian cinema’s visual identity. Inspired by legendary artists like M.F. Husain and S.M. Pandit, 10 student artists from institutions nationwide have been selected to participate in a live hand-painted film poster-making competition at the summit. Their creations will be judged in real-time, with the top three artists receiving prestigious awards for their contributions.
WAVES Summit: A Platform for Creativity & Innovation
Hosted by the Government of India, WAVES is a landmark global event uniting professionals, investors, and creators across the media and entertainment (M&E) sector. Industries highlighted include animation, visual effects, gaming, AI, AR, VR, and digital media, amplifying India’s creative and technological strengths on an international scale.
