The Union Home Secretary chaired a crucial meeting today to tackle Haryana’s pressing water needs. In response to the urgency, the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has decided to release an additional 4,500 cusecs of water from Bhakra Dams for the next eight days.
The meeting saw participation from senior government officials and representatives from Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, and BBMB. It was unanimously agreed that Haryana and select areas of Rajasthan would receive this extra water supply to address immediate requirements. Additionally, Punjab will have access to excess water during the dam-filling period, ensuring optimal resource utilisation.
BBMB will convene a separate meeting to finalise implementation details and ensure swift execution. This timely intervention highlights the government’s commitment to managing water resources effectively and addressing regional concerns.
