Indian batting superstar Virat Kohli has returned to the pinnacle of the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings, reclaiming the No.1 position for the first time since July 2021 following his match-defining 93 off 91 balls in India’s four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the first ODI in Vadodara.

The 37-year-old’s composed knock guided India to a successful chase of New Zealand’s 300, keeping him in sublime form since the ODI series in Australia. Kohli’s scores in his last five outings read: 74*, 135, 102, 65* and 93 – a remarkable purple patch that has seen him edge closer to Sachin Tendulkar in the all-time men’s international run-scoring list, now occupying second place.

This marks Kohli’s 11th separate spell at the top of the ODI rankings, a position he first claimed in October 2013. He has now spent a total of 825 days at No.1 – the 10th most by any player in history and the highest by an Indian.

Other ODI Rankings Movers

New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell continued his rich vein of form, gaining one spot and reaching his career-best rating – now just one point behind Kohli at No.2. Mitchell’s aggressive 84 off 71 in the Vadodara ODI was part of an impressive run that includes three half-centuries in his last five innings and a century against the West Indies.

Teammate Devon Conway climbed three places to 29th, while India’s Mohammed Siraj rose five spots to 15th in the ODI bowling rankings. New Zealand seamer Kyle Jamieson made a massive leap of 27 places to joint-69th after his career-best four-wicket haul.

Test Rankings: Ashes Stars Shine

The conclusion of the Ashes series delivered major gains for Australian players. Opener Travis Head was the biggest mover, jumping seven places to third in the Test batting rankings after topping the run charts with 629 runs at an average of 62.90, including three centuries.

England’s Jacob Bethell surged 25 spots to joint-52nd after his maiden Test century, while Michael Neser climbed seven places to 47th. All-rounder Beau Webster enjoyed rises across all three disciplines following a strong showing in Sydney: up six places to 58th (batting), 29 places to 80th (bowling), and 22 places to 26th (all-rounders).

T20I Rankings Update

Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga moved up three places to second in the T20I bowling rankings after a series-levelling performance against Pakistan. Pakistan pacers also benefited: Salman Mirza jumped 16 spots to 19th, while batters Sahibzada Farhan (up one to fifth) and captain Salman Agha (up 13 to 41st) made gains.

In the T20I all-rounders list, Saim Ayub dropped one position, allowing Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza to reclaim the No.1 ranking.

The latest ICC rankings reflect another thrilling week of international cricket, with established stars and emerging talents making their mark across formats.
