In a significant crackdown on corruption, Odisha Vigilance apprehended Prasanna Kumar Mohali, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Police at Subarnapur Out Post under Banki Police Station, Cuttack district, on Saturday.
Mohali was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a bricks factory owner. The bribe was allegedly sought to provide a seizure list and a certified copy of an FIR, crucial for the complainant to claim insurance for his factory, which had been set ablaze by unknown miscreants.
The complainant, a brick factory owner, had repeatedly approached Mohali for the necessary documents to process his insurance claim. However, Mohali allegedly refused to provide the documents unless the complainant paid the demanded bribe.
Frustrated by the harassment, the factory owner reported the matter to the Odisha Vigilance authorities, who swiftly laid a trap. Today, a Vigilance team caught Mohali in the act of accepting the bribe money. The entire sum of Rs. 20,000 was recovered from the accused and seized by the authorities.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at three locations linked to Mohali to investigate potential disproportionate assets (DA). A case has been registered against him under Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No. 27, dated September 5, 2025, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is ongoing, with further details expected to emerge.
