Odisha Vigilance today apprehended Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police Narasingha Dora from B.Singhpur Police Station in Koraput district, along with a private individual, Sunadhara Amanatya, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000.
The duo was caught red-handed while taking the illegal payment from a complainant involved in a domestic violence case, where ASI Dora served as the Investigating Officer.
According to details, ASI Dora had been pressuring the complainant to pay the bribe, threatening severe action against those involved in the case if the demand was not met. Unable to comply and seeking justice, the complainant reported the matter to the Vigilance authorities.
Acting on the tip-off, a Vigilance team laid a trap and nabbed both accused as they accepted the tainted money. The entire bribe amount of Rs 40,000 was recovered and seized on the spot.
In the aftermath of the arrest, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to ASI Dora to investigate potential disproportionate assets (DA). A case has been registered against the accused under Koraput Vigilance PS Case No. 33/2025, invoking Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is ongoing, with further details expected soon.
