Renowned veteran actor Nana Patekar passed away on Thursday morning at his residence in Goa. He was 75.
The news of his death was confirmed by his son, Malhar Patekar, sending shockwaves across the film industry and millions of fans.
Unresponsive at Goa Residence
Patekar was found unresponsive at his Dona Paula flat in the early hours of October 8 and was immediately rushed to Manipal Hospital. Doctors at the facility attempted to revive him for nearly 45 minutes.
Speaking on the incident, Dr. Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, told news agency ANI:
”Despite 45 minutes of continuous CPR, he could not be revived. A medico-legal case (MLC) has been registered, and a post-mortem will be conducted.”
A Legendary Legacy Across Cinema and Beyond
Born Vishwanath Patekar in Murud-Janjira, Maharashtra, Patekar built an iconic career in both Hindi and Marathi cinema spanning over four decades. Renowned for his intense screen presence and dialogue delivery, his memorable performances in films like Parinda, Krantiveer, Ab Tak Chhappan, Prahaar, and Welcome earned him widespread critical acclaim.
Over his illustrative career, he received three National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards, and was honored with the Padma Shri in 2013 for his distinguished service to cinema and the arts.
Patekar was also known for his close ties with the Indian Armed Forces. He served in the Territorial Army, undergoing training during the making of his directorial film Prahaar, and later served with the Maratha Light Infantry during the 1999 Kargil War before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2013.
