Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Backed for India Test Team as BCCI Urged to Repeat Sachin Tendulkar Gamble

Teenage cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is receiving growing support for an India debut after his impressive performances in domestic and franchise cricket.

The 15-year-old batter, who has primarily played T20 cricket with limited First-Class experience, is now being discussed as a potential long-term prospect for India’s Test team.

Former cricketers and mentors believe the youngster possesses the talent and temperament required for international cricket despite his age and relatively limited red-ball exposure.

Mentor Urges BCCI to Take ‘Sachin Tendulkar-Like’ Leap of Faith

Zubin Bharucha, widely credited for identifying and bringing Sooryavanshi into the Rajasthan Royals setup, believes the Board of Control for Cricket in India should take a bold decision similar to the one made for Sachin Tendulkar in 1989.

Bharucha referred to Tendulkar’s early Test debut against Pakistan and suggested that exposing exceptional young talent to the highest level can accelerate development.

According to him, Sooryavanshi’s performances, strike rate, and overall batting ability already place him ahead of several players waiting for opportunities.

Young Batter Seen as More Than Just an Opener

Although Sooryavanshi has largely opened the batting throughout his career, Bharucha believes the youngster’s long-term future in Test cricket may lie in the middle order rather than at the top.

He suggested that the batter could eventually become highly effective in positions five or six in India’s Test lineup, roles currently associated with players such as Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja.

According to Bharucha, Sooryavanshi’s ability to stay on the back foot and adapt technically gives him the potential to succeed in difficult conditions once he gains more experience against the moving ball.

Technical Development Seen as Key to Test Success

Bharucha emphasized that while Sooryavanshi has exceptional natural talent, mastering red-ball techniques against swing and seam bowling will be essential for long-term success in Test cricket.

He explained that the youngster could initially flourish in familiar Indian conditions but may face tougher challenges in overseas environments such as Leeds, where seam movement and overcast conditions test even experienced batters.

The mentor believes gradual technical refinement and exposure to challenging situations could eventually make Sooryavanshi equally dangerous both as an opener and as a middle-order batter.

Limited First-Class Experience but Massive Potential

Despite playing only a handful of First-Class matches so far, Sooryavanshi has already emerged as one of the most talked-about young talents in Indian cricket.

His rapid rise through youth cricket and franchise competitions has sparked widespread debate about how quickly exceptional players should be introduced to the international stage.

While many experts feel immediate Test selection may still be premature, there is increasing agreement that the youngster could become a major part of India’s future across formats.
