Bandi Sanjay son POCSO case

Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s son, Bandi Bhageerath, surrendered before Cyberabad police on Saturday in connection with a POCSO case. His surrender followed the issuance of a look-out circular to prevent him from leaving the country.

Minister Bandi Sanjay confirmed that his son was handed over through legal representatives, reiterating that “everyone is equal before the law.” He had earlier alleged that his family was being targeted, while Bhageerath maintained he had committed no wrongdoing.

With utmost respect for the law and judiciary, today my son Bandi Bhageerath went before the Telangana Police through our advocates for investigation.

I have said this before too: whether it is my own son or a common citizen, everyone is equal before the law.…

The Telangana High Court recently refused interim protection from arrest while hearing Bhageerath’s anticipatory bail plea. Orders are expected on Monday.

The case was registered on May 8 after the mother of a 17-year-old girl lodged a complaint alleging sexual harassment. Police later invoked more stringent sections under the POCSO Act.

Bhageerath, however, filed a counter-complaint, claiming the girl’s family pressured him to marry her, demanded money, and threatened false accusations. He alleged he had already paid ₹50,000 but was later asked for ₹5 crore.

The case has triggered political reactions, with TRS leader K Kavitha writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding Bandi Sanjay’s removal from the Union Cabinet to ensure a fair investigation.

The unfolding legal battle has placed the minister’s family under intense public scrutiny, highlighting the intersection of law, politics, and personal accountability
