Rourkela witnessed the inauguration of a grand statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, marking a moment of remembrance and public tribute.
The statue was unveiled by Union Minister and Sundargarh MP Jual Oram at Hanuman Vatika Square in the city.
The statue, standing 20 feet tall, has been installed as a symbol of Vajpayee’s lasting contribution to the nation. On this occasion, Hanuman Vatika Square was also officially renamed Vajpayee Square.
Dignitaries Attend the Ceremony
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several senior officials and public representatives, including Sundargarh District Collector Shubhankar Mahapatra and Rourkela Superintendent of Police Nitesh Wadhwani.
Alongside the unveiling, a memorial meeting was organised to reflect on the life and legacy of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Speakers highlighted his role in national development, inclusive governance, and people-centric policies during his tenure as Prime Minister.
Public Participation and Youth Engagement
Residents from different parts of Rourkela, including a large number of young people, participated in the event. The gathering reflected widespread respect for Vajpayee’s leadership and his vision for a united and progressive India.
Jual Oram Pays Tribute
Speaking at the event, Union Minister Jual Oram said he had learned greatly while working with Atal Bihari Vajpayee during his time as Prime Minister.
“Working alongside Atal Bihari Vajpayee was a deeply enriching experience. He was a great leader and an inspiring personality who always placed public welfare at the centre of governance,” Oram said.
A Lasting Tribute
The installation of the statue and the renaming of the square are seen as enduring tributes to one of India’s most respected leaders, whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
