Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, inspected the ongoing redevelopment works at Puri Railway Station.
The project represents a major step toward transforming the station into a world-class transit hub.
During the review, the Minister emphasised the importance of modern infrastructure that enhances passenger convenience while reflecting Odisha’s cultural heritage. The redevelopment plan includes expanded platforms, upgraded passenger amenities, advanced ticketing systems, and improved safety measures.
Officials briefed the Minister on progress achieved so far, noting that construction milestones are being met despite weather challenges. The project seeks to accommodate the surge of visitors during peak pilgrimage seasons, particularly the annual Rath Yatra, when millions of devotees travel to Puri.
The Minister highlighted that the redevelopment aligns with the government’s broader vision of modernising railway infrastructure across India. He stressed that Puri Railway Station must serve as both a gateway for pilgrims and a model of efficiency for travellers.
