Heavy rain created dangerous conditions in Jharsuguda district today, but quick thinking by a bus driver saved students of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya from a major accident.
The incident occurred in Lakhanpur block, where continuous rainfall turned an under-construction culvert bypass road into a muddy stretch. The school bus carrying students got stuck when its wheel sank deep into the slush. The driver immediately stopped the vehicle, preventing it from sliding further.
Students inside the bus panicked as the vehicle tilted in the mud. Many rushed out in fear, but the driver’s alertness ensured no casualties. Witnesses said the bus could have overturned if not for the driver’s timely decision.
Jharsuguda has been experiencing relentless rainfall, with Lakhanpur block recording the highest downpour. Authorities confirmed that the situation has disrupted normal life across the district.
Parents and teachers praised the driver’s presence of mind, noting that his action averted a tragedy. The administration urged caution on temporary bypass roads and advised schools to monitor transport routes during heavy rain.
