Khurda: An undertrial prisoner of Khurda Jail escaped while at Khurda Court. The escapee, Sukant Naik from the Kuhudi area of Khurda district, was serving time in Jharpada Jail for a case registered at Kuhudi police station for the past two years.
On Saturday, culprit Naik was transported by police from Jharpada Jail to Khurda Court to serve as an eye witness. However, once his handcuffs were removed from the court premises, he managed to flee from the police.
After escaping, Naik stayed on the court’s roof for some time. He then descended the stairs and managed his way to the backyard of the court. Subsequently, he jumped over the court’s boundary wall and absconded. His escape was captured on CCTV.
The incident has sparked discussions regarding the police’s alertness in handling criminals.
