The Indian government has banned multiple streaming platforms, including Ullu, ALTT, and Desiflix, for violating obscenity laws.
These platforms, according to officials, were found promoting “soft porn” under the guise of erotic web series.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in coordination with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, acted on numerous complaints citing explicit content on these apps. As a result, 19 websites, 10 mobile applications, and 57 social media handles associated with 18 OTT platforms have been blocked from public access.
The platforms named in the crackdown include Big Shots, Dreams Films, Neon X VIP, MoodX, Besharams, Voovi, Mojflix, Yessma, Hunters, Hot Shots VIP, Rabbit, Tri Flicks, Xtramood, Chikooflix, X Prime, Nuefliks, and Prime Play.
Union Minister Shri Anurag Singh Thakur reiterated that digital platforms must not promote obscenity or vulgarity under the veil of “creative freedom.” This marks the latest effort to regulate content on OTT platforms following a similar crackdown in March 2024.
