In a major push towards digital convenience, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a seamless way for citizens to add or update their email ID in Aadhaar directly through the Aadhaar App — and the response has been overwhelming.

Since the feature went live on July 1, 2026, more than 2.5 lakh residents have already updated their email addresses in just two days. This free service, available exclusively through the Aadhaar App for the next six months, eliminates the need to visit an Aadhaar enrolment centre, saving time and effort for millions.

The move is part of UIDAI’s ongoing efforts under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and the Digital India initiative to make government services more accessible and citizen-friendly.

Why Linking Email to Aadhaar Matters

Once updated, your registered email will receive real-time notifications whenever any authentication request is made using your Aadhaar number. This adds a powerful layer of transparency and security, allowing you to instantly spot and report any suspicious activity.

The upgraded Aadhaar App is proving to be a one-stop solution for multiple services.

So far:

  • Over 4 million people have updated their mobile numbers
  • Nearly 1 million have updated their address

All from the comfort of their smartphones.“Keeping your Aadhaar profile updated is now easier than ever,” a UIDAI statement noted. “We urge every Aadhaar holder to take advantage of this facility and strengthen their digital identity.”

How to Update Your Email

  • Download or update the official Aadhaar App
  • Log in with your Aadhaar number and biometric/PIN authentication
  • Navigate to the email update section and complete the process in minutes

Download Links:

Android: Google Play Store

iOS: Apple App Store

This initiative reflects UIDAI’s commitment to building a Viksit Bharat where digital services are simple, secure, and inclusive. With millions already benefiting from mobile and address updates, the addition of free email updates is set to further simplify life for Aadhaar holders across the country.

Don’t wait — update your email today and stay securely connected!
