Indian television stars Sanaya Irani and Mohit Sehgal’s much-awaited on-screen reunion has landed in the middle of a social media storm. Their latest micro-drama, Qabool Hai, streaming on Kuku TV, is facing widespread plagiarism allegations, with viewers claiming the series closely resembles the popular Pakistani drama Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum.

The controversy has overshadowed what was meant to be a special comeback project for the real-life couple, who are sharing screen space for the first time in nearly a decade since their hit show Miley Jab Hum Tum.

Why Is Qabool Hai Facing Plagiarism Allegations?

The debate erupted after clips from Qabool Hai began circulating online. Fans quickly noticed similarities between the Indian series and Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum, a blockbuster Pakistani drama starring Hania Aamir and Fahad Mustafa.

Several viewers shared side-by-side comparisons on social media platforms, arguing that the similarities extend beyond a common storyline. According to critics, the visual treatment, character dynamics, emotional scenes and even certain mannerisms appear strikingly similar.

One social media user alleged that the series was a “copy-paste” version of the Pakistani show, while others questioned whether original storytelling was being sacrificed in favour of recreating successful formats.

The criticism intensified as comparison videos gained traction across X, Instagram and fan communities dedicated to South Asian television content.

Similar Storylines Fuel Debate

At the centre of the controversy is the core narrative shared by both shows.

Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum follows Sharjeena, an ambitious and practical woman whose life takes an unexpected turn when she ends up marrying Mustafa, an unemployed and carefree young man. What begins as a marriage of circumstance gradually transforms into a heartfelt love story as the couple navigates financial challenges, family pressures and personal growth.

Viewers argue that Qabool Hai follows a remarkably similar blueprint. The series also revolves around a responsible and ambitious woman who finds herself in an unexpected marriage with a jobless and carefree man. As the story unfolds, the couple faces financial struggles, emotional conflicts and evolving feelings for one another.

Many fans believe the resemblance goes beyond inspiration and enters the territory of imitation.

Social Media Reacts

The controversy has triggered intense debate online, with some viewers expressing disappointment and others defending the creators by arguing that similar storylines are common across global entertainment industries.

While critics insist that certain scenes appear almost identical to those in Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum, supporters of Qabool Hai argue that audiences should wait for the complete storyline before drawing conclusions.

The discussion has also reignited broader conversations about originality, adaptations and creative influences in television and digital entertainment.

Makers Yet to Respond

As the debate continues to trend online, neither the makers of Qabool Hai nor lead actors Sanaya Irani and Mohit Sehgal have issued an official statement regarding the allegations.

The production team has remained silent so far, leaving fans waiting for clarification on whether the similarities are coincidental, inspired by existing narratives or part of a licensed adaptation.

Until an official response emerges, the plagiarism controversy surrounding Qabool Hai is likely to remain a major talking point among television audiences across India and Pakistan.

With both shows attracting significant attention, the debate highlights the growing influence of cross-border content consumption and the increasing scrutiny viewers place on originality in the digital entertainment era.
