The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has addressed recent concerns over the deactivation of Aadhaar numbers belonging to certain residents of Odisha, after media reports and social media posts claimed that living individuals were incorrectly marked as deceased.

In a press note released today, UIDAI explained that it has deactivated more than 2 crore Aadhaar numbers nationwide belonging to deceased persons as part of a routine clean-up drive aimed at maintaining the accuracy of the Aadhaar database and preventing potential identity fraud or misuse for availing government benefits.

The authority sources information on deceased individuals from various official repositories. However, UIDAI acknowledged that inconsistencies or inaccurate data shared with these repositories can occasionally lead to the erroneous deactivation of Aadhaar numbers of living persons.

Emphasising its commitment to swift resolution, UIDAI stated that it has a robust grievance redressal system in place and such cases are being handled on a fast-track basis. Affected Aadhaar holders in Odisha have been advised to contact the UIDAI State Office in Bhubaneswar for immediate assistance.

**Contact details for grievance redressal**:
UIDAI State Office, Bhubaneswar
Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Govt. of India
3rd Floor, OCAC Tower, Acharya Vihar,
RRL Post Office, Bhubaneswar, Khordha,
Odisha – 751013
Email: helpodisha-rohyd@uidai.net.in

UIDAI urged residents not to panic and assured that genuine cases of wrongful deactivation will be rectified promptly upon verification.
