Two people died in a tragic accident when a potato-laden truck crashed into a road divider near Talnagar bridge under Soro police limits in Odisha’s Balasore district today.
The truck was travelling from West Bengal to Bhubaneswar in the early hours. As it reached Talnagar, it struck another vehicle before colliding with the divider. The impact threw the driver and his assistant off the truck along with potato sacks. They fell beneath the bridge and became trapped under the heavy load.
National Highway Patrol, police and fire services personnel from Soro rushed to the spot after receiving information. Local residents joined the rescue operation, which lasted several hours. The victims were taken to Soro hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Authorities have not yet identified the deceased. Police sources confirmed that the accident highlights the urgent need for strict road safety measures and cautious driving on highways. The incident has raised concerns about overloaded vehicles and reckless driving, which often lead to fatal accidents on NH-16.
