A tragic accident inside the restricted zone of Odisha’s Paradip Port has claimed the lives of two drivers.
Late last night, a speeding truck carrying iron ore rammed into a stationary vehicle near plot I-10, killing Ratnakar Swain of Astaranga and Chandan Jena of Sandhkuda on the spot.
Eyewitnesses reported that the drivers were working on a breakdown vehicle when the accident occurred. The impact of the collision was severe, and the driver of the truck fled the scene immediately after the crash.
The incident has sparked outrage among drivers and workers, who are protesting against safety lapses inside the port premises. As a result of the unrest, the movement of goods from the affected plot has been halted since 3 AM. Protesters gathered at multiple entry gates, demanding justice for the deceased and stricter enforcement of safety regulations.
Authorities have launched an investigation and are working to locate the absconding truck driver. Port officials are facing increasing pressure to reassess existing safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
