A horrific road accident on National Highway 143 in Sundargarh district claimed the lives of two bikers near Gamlei under Lahunipada police limits on Saturday.
A speeding truck rammed into the motorcycle, killing both riders instantly.
Eyewitnesses said the truck approached at high speed and struck the bike head-on. The impact was so severe that both bikers died on the spot before medical assistance could arrive. Locals rushed to the scene but found the victims already lifeless.
Lahunipada police reached the accident site immediately after receiving information. Officers detained the truck driver and began questioning him about the incident. Police also seized the vehicle involved in the collision.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been established. Police are making efforts to trace their families and notify them. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination at the local hospital.
Authorities confirmed that a formal investigation has started to determine the exact cause of the accident. Officers assured that they will continue inquiries until all details are clear.
Residents expressed concern over the rising number of accidents on National Highway 143. They pointed out that reckless driving and overspeeding have become frequent issues along the stretch.
