The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Giribala Singh, former judge and mother-in-law of Twisha Sharma, from her Bhopal residence on Thursday.

The arrest followed the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s decision to cancel her anticipatory bail a day earlier.

CBI officials reached Singh’s home in Bag Mughaliya Extension and questioned her before taking her into custody. The action came just weeks after 33-year-old Twisha Sharma was found dead at her matrimonial house in Bhopal on May 12, five months after her marriage to lawyer Samarth Singh.

On Wednesday, the High Court quashed the anticipatory bail granted to Singh in connection with the dowry case. She had moved a sessions court seeking protection just two days after Twisha’s death.

Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh, was arrested on May 23 from Jabalpur court premises after remaining absconding for nearly ten days. He had withdrawn his anticipatory bail plea earlier that day and indicated his intention to surrender. A Bhopal court later sent him to seven-day police custody for questioning. Investigators are examining digital evidence, including WhatsApp chats and call records.

Twisha’s family alleged she faced harassment and pressure from her husband and in-laws. They claimed she felt suffocated in her marital home and raised concerns about attempts to tamper with evidence. The family also accused authorities of delaying the FIR and demanded a transparent probe.
