Twin City waterlogging due to heavy rain

Odisha has witnessed relentless rainfall since Monday night, leaving several parts of Bhubaneswar and Kataka waterlogged.

Continuous showers disrupted daily life, with low-lying areas submerged and traffic movement severely affected.

Meteorologists confirmed that monsoon currents remain active across the state. The Regional Meteorological Centre warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts until July 5. Scientist Dr Sanjeev Dwivedi said rainfall intensity will increase from Tuesday, urging caution in vulnerable areas.

In Bhubaneswar, localities such as Nayapalli, IRC Village, Bomikhal, Sailashree Vihar, Laxmisagar, and Old Station Bazaar reported severe waterlogging. Commuters struggled as rainwater accumulated on major roads, slowing traffic and creating jams. Parents and students faced difficulties reaching schools due to ankle-deep water in several areas.

Kataka also faced similar conditions, with waterlogging reported in Badambadi, Choudhury Bazaar, Manglabagh, and Tulasipur. Residents expressed frustration over poor drainage systems, noting that such problems recur every monsoon.

Authorities deployed teams to monitor the situation, but residents demanded long-term solutions to prevent annual flooding. Traders and shopkeepers in affected areas reported losses as water entered shops and disrupted business.
