US President Donald Trump has stirred fresh controversy by posting an AI-generated video on his platform Truth Social, depicting the FBI arresting former President Barack Obama inside the White House.
The video begins with a fabricated clip of Obama declaring that “especially the President is above the law,” followed by appearances by several political figures — including former President Joe Biden — saying, “no one is above the law.”
The manipulated footage then shows Trump confronting Obama in the Oval Office, culminating in a scene where Obama, dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit, is shown behind bars. None of the events portrayed in the video are real.
The deepfake video has been widely condemned as misleading and inflammatory, with political analysts and civil rights groups warning about the dangers of AI misuse in political propaganda — especially ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
While Trump’s camp has not issued an official comment, critics say the video crosses ethical boundaries and undermines democratic norms. Supporters, on the other hand, claim it’s satirical.
Experts say the video may test the limits of free speech and misinformation laws, with possible legal scrutiny from federal agencies and media watchdogs.
