Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain accompanied by strong gusty winds lashed the Twin Cities of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar and several other areas in the State.
A sudden change in the weather occurred around 12 noon in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and adjoining areas. Near-darkness prevailed in the twin cities for quite some time, creating an illusion of evening.
People were advised to stay indoors likely water logging in low-lying areas, said Bhubaneswar Met Centre.
According to a yellow warning issued by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, there will be light to moderate thunderstorms with gusty wind speed reaching 30- 40 kmph with lightning and moderate rain in some parts of Angul, Jajpur, Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Malkangiri, Bhadrak, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Balasore, Rayagada, Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada, Khurda (including Bhubaneswar) and Kendrapada from 11.30 am to 2.30 pm.
People are advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect from lightning strikes, the release added.
