Puri: The Swatantra Shree Mandir Surakshay Bahini (SSMSV) has been entrusted with the critical task of ensuring comprehensive security for the revered Puri Srimandir and its surrounding sensitive areas.
This initiative aims to bolster the safety of the temple complex, which includes the Sri Gundicha Temple, Parikrama Project, Mausi Maa Temple, Bada Danda, Sri Marg, and Jagannath Vihar.
Under the supervision of the National Security Guard (NSG), SSMSV personnel will undergo rigorous drills to prepare for potential armed attacks and other security threats. These drills are designed to enhance the force’s readiness to counter terrorism, extremism, and other forms of sabotage.
The SSMSV will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology and modern equipment to ensure a foolproof security system. Their responsibilities include bomb detection and disposal, anti-sabotage checks, and maintaining effective access control. Additionally, the force will work closely with intelligence agencies to gather and analyze information, enabling them to devise and update countermeasures as needed.
The deployment of SSMSV reflects a proactive approach to safeguarding one of India’s most significant cultural and religious landmarks, ensuring the safety and peace of mind for devotees and visitors alike.
The selection of persons for induction to SSMSV in the rank of SI (Armed), ASI (Armed), Havildar (General) and Sepoy (General) shall be done by a Committee headed by ADGP, Special Armed Police (SAP), Odisha, Bhubaneswar and consisting of three other members, viz., IGP, Central Range, Cuttack, Superintendent of Police, Puri and any other officer nominated by DG & IGP in the rank of IG / DIG / SP / Commandant, the release read.
