Three newly elected Rajya Sabha members from Odisha — Manmohan Samal (BJP), Dilip Kumar Ray (BJP-supported Independent), and Santrupt Misra (BJD) — took oath today in the Upper House, proudly doing so in their mother tongue, Odia.
The oath ceremony was held in the presence of Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan, with Deputy Chairman Harivansh and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also attending. The Chairman administered the oath of office and secrecy to the three members in the Parliament House.
The Rajya Sabha elections for four seats from Odisha, held on March 16, 2026, saw Manmohan Samal and Sujeet Kumar win on BJP tickets, Dilip Kumar Ray as an Independent supported by BJP, and Santrupt Misra from BJD. However, Sujeet Kumar did not take the oath today, and the reason for his absence remains unknown.
The event marked a proud moment for Odisha, showcasing the state’s linguistic heritage in the national legislature.
