The Kerala Story 2 has been granted a U/A certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ahead of its theatrical release on February 27.

The certification allows viewers above the age of 14 to watch the film with parental guidance. Given the sensitive subject matter, many expected the film to receive an ‘A’ (Adults Only) rating.

Vipul Amrutlal Shah Reacts

Producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah welcomed the board’s decision, calling it a reflection of trust in the film’s intent.

“I am truly grateful to the Censor Board for granting a UA certificate to our film. It reflects their faith in the intent and integrity with which we have told this story. This decision is especially important because it allows us to reach young girls and families across the country,” he said.

Shah added that the objective of the film is to spread awareness and empower young people to make informed choices.

Film’s Theme and Controversy

Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh, the film revolves around the story of girls allegedly trapped in forced religious conversion rackets. The makers claim it is based on real cases from the Indian legal system.

However, the trailer has triggered polarised reactions. Critics argue that the film exaggerates incidents and presents a controversial narrative.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan criticised the film, calling it “poisonous propaganda” and defending Kerala’s image as a state known for religious harmony and secular values.

Release Date

The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond is scheduled to release in cinemas nationwide on February 27.
