Cuttack: Tension erupted at Balisahi area of Nuapada in Cuttack today afternoon after thunderstorm blew away two makeshift tents injuring two persons. The slum dwellers were living in tents after eviction by the civic body.
As per reports, thunderstorm followed by strong winds lashed several parts of Odisha this afternoon.
Two tents in Nuapada Balisahi, where the evicted slum dwellers were staying, were destroyed following which two persons suffered injuries and some children got trapped under the debris.
Reportedly, the children have been rescued safely, while the injured persons have been admitted to the hospital.
Fumed over the incident, the locals allegedly attacked an official of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation leaving him injured. The police personnel also faced the wrath of the mob, which hurled stones at them.
Following this, five platoons of police forces have been deployed in the locality to maintain law and order and tackle any further untoward incident.
It may be mentioned here that the civic body has temporarily shifted the dwellers of Cuttack Malgodown Behera Sahi slum to Nuapada Balisahi.
