Tension gripped the Pattamundai area of Kendrapara district after the death of a private school teacher triggered outrage.
According to allegations, the teacher consumed poison on December 17 after facing blackmail from a youth. The incident has since stirred anger in the locality.
A week after the tragedy, villagers accused police of failing to take proper action. On Thursday, hundreds of residents surrounded Pattamundai police station and staged a protest. They demanded the immediate arrest of the accused youth and justice for the victim. Demonstrators blocked the road and sat in front of the station, raising slogans against police inaction.
The incident has become a subject of widespread discussion in the region. Family members of the deceased and villagers expressed strong dissatisfaction over what they described as police negligence.
Police officials said the investigation into the case is underway. However, protesters insisted on swift measures and accountability.
