Iga Swiatek of Poland delivered a commanding performance to secure her place in the Indian Wells quarterfinals, thrashing Karolina Muchova of Czechia 6-1, 6-1.
The second seed’s relentless march through the tournament saw her drop only six games in her three matches.
The match, which was delayed due to rain, saw Swiatek quickly seize control, winning the first four games without dropping a first-serve point. Muchova, who had an impressive run to the U.S. Open semifinal last year, struggled to find her form, making numerous mistakes.
Swiatek will now face either Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen of China or Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk in the next round. Reflecting on her victory, Swiatek said, “From the beginning, I felt like I can lead, and I didn’t make many mistakes. I’m happy I did that till the end.”
In another thrilling match, Ukrainian 23rd seed Elina Svitolina upset fourth seed Jessica Pegula 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. Svitolina, who endured a rain delay before the third set, will meet 17-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva in the next round. Andreeva recently beat world number seven Elena Rybakina in two straight matches, including a semi-final triumph in Dubai.
