Three people died and two sustained critical injuries when a Bolero SUV crashed into a container truck on National Highway 16 near Rajakana Square under Tangi police limits in Cuttack early Tuesday morning.
The accident occurred around 3:50 a.m. The SUV, travelling from Keonjhar towards Bhubaneswar, carried mine labourers. The vehicle suddenly crossed the road divider and collided head-on with a container truck moving from Bhubaneswar to Chandikhole. The impact killed three occupants instantly.
Tangi police reached the spot quickly and rescued the two injured passengers. They shifted them to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment. The container truck suffered minor damage, while its driver and helper escaped without injury.
Police seized both vehicles and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Authorities confirmed that reckless driving and sudden lane crossing led to the fatal collision.
The tragic incident highlights the dangers of highway travel during early hours and underscores the importance of road safety measures. Police assured that further inquiry will reveal more details about the circumstances leading to the crash.
