The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of Justice Dixit Krishna Shripad from the Karnataka High Court to the Orissa High Court, marking a significant step toward improving judicial diversity and the quality of justice delivery across India.

The decision, part of a broader move to transfer seven High Court judges, was finalized during the Collegium’s meetings held on April 15 and April 19, 2025, as per a resolution published on the Department of Justice website.

Justice Shripad’s transfer to the Orissa High Court awaits the approval of the Central Government, after which he will officially assume his new role. The Collegium’s recommendation reflects its ongoing efforts to strengthen the judiciary by ensuring inclusivity and diversity at the High Court level, a goal explicitly outlined in the resolution. Other transfers recommended in the same meeting include Justice Hemant Chandangoudar to the Madras High Court, Justice Krishnan Natarajan to the Kerala High Court, and Justice Neranahalli Srinivasan Sanjay Gowda to the Gujarat High Court.

Justice Dixit Krishna Shripad, born on July 20, 1964, has been a prominent figure in the Karnataka High Court. He was initially appointed as an Additional Judge on February 14, 2018, and became a Permanent Judge on January 7, 2020, according to the Karnataka High Court’s official website. Prior to his judicial appointment, Justice Shripad served as the Additional Solicitor General (ASG) for the Karnataka High Court, a role that showcased his legal acumen.

Justice Shripad’s appointment to the Orissa High Court comes at a time when Odisha is witnessing significant administrative and judicial developments. The addition of Justice Shripad to the Orissa High Court is expected to bring his extensive experience to the bench, potentially influencing key judicial proceedings in the state.

As the Orissa High Court prepares to welcome its new judge, this transfer underscores the judiciary’s commitment to fostering a dynamic and diverse judicial system capable of addressing the evolving needs of India’s legal landscape.
