In a major legal setback for former Rajya Sabha MP from Rayagada, N. Bhaskar Rao, the Supreme Court of India has quashed the bail previously granted to him and co-accused by the Orissa High Court.
Delivering the verdict on October 26, 2026, a bench comprising Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva set aside the High Court’s order while hearing Special Leave Petition (SLP) Nos. 6555–6559/2026.
Two-Week Deadline to Surrender
The apex court directed N. Bhaskar Rao and the other co-accused to surrender before the lower court within two weeks from the date of the order (October 26, 2026).
According to official directions:
-
Upon surrendering, the accused will be remanded to judicial custody (jail).
-
Following their return to custody, they retain the liberty to file a fresh bail application before the Orissa High Court at an appropriate stage.
