Indian wrestler Sunil Kumar delivered a standout performance at the Asian Wrestling Championships 2025, earning a bronze medal in the 87kg Greco-Roman category.
In the bronze medal bout, Sunil defeated China’s Jiaxin Huang with determination and skill.
Earlier in the quarterfinals, Sunil showcased his dominance, defeating Tajikistan’s Sukhrob Abdulkhaev with an impressive 10-1 victory. However, his road to the finals was halted by Iran’s Yasin Yazdi, who narrowly edged him out with a 3-1 win in the semifinals.
Sunil’s achievement adds to his illustrious career, which includes a silver medal in the 2019 edition of the same championship. His persistence and resilience continue to inspire fans and fellow athletes alike.
Other Indian wrestlers also participated in the tournament, with mixed outcomes. Sagar Thakran advanced to the quarterfinals in the 77kg category but faced a tough loss to Jordan’s Amro Sadeh. Umesh (63kg), Nitin (55kg), and Prem (130kg) were eliminated in the initial rounds.
Sunil Kumar’s bronze medal reinforces India’s presence in international wrestling, offering a glimmer of hope for future successes.
