Starlink, the satellite-based internet service from Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has officially revealed pricing for its residential plan in India, signalling a significant move toward a wider rollout in the country. The announcement follows several months of regulatory preparation and technical groundwork aimed at enhancing internet access in underserved regions.
According to the updated Starlink India website, the monthly subscription for the Residential plan is priced at ₹8,600, while the hardware kit costs ₹34,000 as a one-time payment. Customers will receive unlimited data and a 30-day trial period to evaluate the service before making a long-term commitment.
Starlink says its equipment is designed for quick self-installation and is built to withstand varied weather conditions.
The company also claims that the network is engineered for over 99.9% uptime, a feature expected to benefit homes and communities that lack reliable broadband options.
Business plan details expected soon
Starlink has not yet disclosed pricing for its Business plan. The company is likely to announce commercial offerings in the coming weeks as it finalises discussions with government authorities and prepares for a full-scale launch.
Recent hiring activity, including four Bengaluru-based positions posted in late October—Payments Manager, Accounting Manager, Senior Treasury Analyst and Tax Manager—indicates an aggressive expansion strategy for the India market.
Who stands to benefit?
The introduction of Starlink is expected to support students, small businesses, remote households, and local administrations, especially in rural areas where conventional broadband infrastructure remains limited.
However, the official rollout continues to depend on regulatory and compliance approvals from India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
Elon Musk on Starlink’s progress
In a recent conversation with entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath, Elon Musk spoke about advancements in robotics and global internet connectivity. He noted that helper robots could become part of everyday life and highlighted Starlink’s expansion across more than 150 countries, offering dependable, low-latency internet at competitive rates.
Starlink’s formal entry into India
In November, Starlink achieved a significant milestone by securing its first state partnership in India. Maharashtra became the first state to collaborate with Starlink, marking the beginning of a new phase in India’s digital infrastructure ecosystem.
This partnership represents Starlink’s first formal agreement with an Indian state government and aligns with broader national goals to increase connectivity in remote regions.
