SS Rajamouli, known for his cinematic masterpieces, recently visited Odisha’s Koraput district for the shooting of his latest film, SSMB-29.
During his stay, the director embarked on a solo trek to Deomali, the highest peak in Odisha, and was left mesmerized by the natural beauty of the location. However, the experience was marred by the sight of litter scattered along the trail.
Rajamouli took to social media to express his disappointment, emphasizing the importance of civic responsibility and responsible tourism. “Had an amazing solo trek to Deomali, Odisha’s highest and most stunning peak. The view from the top was absolutely breathtaking. However, it was disheartening to see the trail marred by litter. Such pristine wonders deserve better. A little civic sense can make a huge difference,” he posted. The filmmaker called on visitors to carry back their waste to preserve such locations for future generations.
The post sparked a discussion online, with many netizens echoing Rajamouli’s sentiments. Suggestions ranged from introducing civic awareness campaigns to incorporating lessons on community living in school curriculums. Some reminisced about the untouched beauty of Deomali in years past, expressing regret over its current condition.
Actors Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra, who were also part of the Koraput shoot, joined Rajamouli in expressing gratitude to the local community for their hospitality. “Dear Koraput, Thank you for the warm hospitality. Looking forward to many such adventures. With love from the sets of SSMB-29,” read a heartfelt message shared by the team.
The incident has highlighted the need for greater efforts to maintain cleanliness and promote eco-friendly practices at tourist destinations in India. As Rajamouli aptly pointed out, a little civic sense can indeed make a big difference.
