Bhubaneswar: The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) ordered four district collectors to take immediate action as cyclonic circulation has formed over the north Bay of Bengal.
The Odisha government has declared a high alert for Bolangir, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, and Puri districts due to intense rainfall, which could result in reduced visibility, submerged roads and bridges, and flooding of low-lying areas.
The collectors are directed to implement pumps for dewatering, ensure drainage channels are clear, and carry out evacuations from low-lying areas as needed.
The SRC has mandated an immediate response from the collectors to guarantee the safety of residents in the impacted zones.
People living in these districts should stay alert and take all necessary safety measures.
“The heavy rainfall in Bolangir, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, and Puri districts has been confirmed. There is a risk of low visibility and the submersion of roads and bridges, along with the flooding of low-lying areas. The use of pumps for dewatering, clearing drainage channels, and evacuating people from affected areas is instructed if necessary. The Special Relief Commissioner has directed the Collectors to act promptly,” states the SRC’s issued letter.
IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said, “Another cyclonic circulation has formed over the north Bay of Bengal and it is likely to intensify into a low-pressure area by tomorrow. Under its influence, several districts in Odisha are likely to witness heavy rainfall in the next 24 hrs. While deficit rainfall was recorded in June, 9 per cent excess rainfall was recorded in July…”
