A vigilance court in Baripada Saturday convicted five former sarpanches of various gram panchayats under Udala block in Mayurbhanj and an electrical supplier for embezzling government funds.
According to Vigilance, the five former sarpanches, Sita Baskey of Khaladi GP, Mohadev Tudu of Sidamchandrapur GP, Basen Marandi of Radho GP, Jatindra Singh of Badasingaria GP, and Budhiram Singh of Kundabai GP, and an electrical supplier of Baripada, Sanjay Kumar Das were charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a Case U/s 13(2)r/w 13(1)(c)(d) P.C. Act.1988/409/468/477-A/120-B IPC for misappropriation of Govt. money by showing undue favour to the supplier by installing substandard sodium vapour light in their locality.
Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada today convicted the six and sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years each including a fine.
M. Swain, Ex-DSP, Vigilance, Balasore Division had investigated the case and Santanu Das, Spl. P.P., Vigilance, Baripada conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
