In preparation for the upcoming monsoon session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Speaker Surama Padhy on Tuesday convened an all-party meeting to seek cooperation from all political parties and ensure the smooth functioning of the House.
The monsoon session is scheduled to run from September 18 to 25, covering seven working days.
According to sources from the Assembly Secretariat, the meeting focused on finalizing the government’s legislative agenda and discussing issues flagged by the opposition. The Speaker appealed to all parties to maintain order and engage in constructive debate on matters of public importance.
Political parties have begun internal deliberations to finalize their respective strategies ahead of the session:
-
Biju Janata Dal (BJD): The BJD Legislature Party will meet on Wednesday at 5 pm at Shankha Bhawan to decide its floor strategy.
-
Congress: The Congress Legislature Party is set to hold a preparatory meeting at Congress Bhawan to chart out its plan of action.
-
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP): BJP legislators are expected to meet under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, with senior leaders including state BJP president Manmohan Samal in attendance.
Observers anticipate a stormy session, with key debates expected on governance, welfare schemes, and opposition criticism of government policies. Heated exchanges between the treasury and opposition benches are likely as both sides gear up for a politically charged week.
