In an unexpected turn of events, a massive outage at Cloudflare has left users reeling as popular platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) and ChatGPT face disruptions. Users attempting to access these services have reported issues with viewing posts, uploading tweets, and using chatbot functionalities.
The outages began around 5 PM IST, with users receiving messages indicating “internal server error on Cloudflare’s network.” Downdetector, a website tracking outages, has also faced challenges, rendering users unable to assess the extent of the situation. Cloudflare, an internet infrastructure giant, confirmed they were investigating the problem affecting multiple customers.
Amid the chaos, Cloudflare provided an update confirming that while some services have seen recovery, issues with applications like X and ChatGPT persist. The company assured users, “We are continuing to work on restoring service for application services customers.”
This technical hiccup comes hot on the heels of a major Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage that disrupted services for platforms including Amazon, Snapchat, and WhatsApp earlier this week. The AWS outage was attributed to issues at one of the company’s oldest data centers in Virginia, which caused widespread accessibility problems.
As Cloudflare works to resolve the ongoing issues, users remain hopeful for a swift return to normalcy, closely monitoring updates from the company regarding the root cause and the expected timeline for resolution.
