The Crime Branch categorised the Rajkanika minor girl gang rape case in Kendrapara district as a Red Flag case, ensuring close monitoring by senior officers. The Crime Against Women (CAW) wing is supervising the probe.

Sukant Patra, SDPO, confirmed that the survivor’s audio-video statement was recorded under Section 180 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Based on prima facie evidence, the police registered a case. Officers apprehended the accused, conducted medical examinations, and prepared to produce them in court. The survivor received medical treatment.

Police arrested five staff members of a private English-medium school for allegedly gang-raping and sexually assaulting a 12-year-old Class VII girl multiple times over two years. The accused include four teachers, one of them a woman, and a peon. They face charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The case surfaced after the girl’s mother lodged an FIR on February 21, 2026, at Rajkanika Police Station. Reports indicate that her father and the District Child Welfare Committee (CWC) had also raised complaints separately.

Investigators revealed that the abuse occurred repeatedly inside the school premises, involving coercion, threats, and enticements to silence the victim. The school, established around 24 years ago, has nearly 600 students and 20 teachers.

Authorities announced that a Special Public Prosecutor will be appointed to fast-track the trial. Police emphasised that senior Crime Branch officers will directly supervise the investigation to ensure thoroughness and justice.
