Grammy-winning South African singer Tyla made her debut in India at the Indian Sneaker Festival 2025, headlining a 60-minute performance at the MMRDA Grounds, Bandra Kurla Complex on December 7. While her electrifying stage presence captured fans’ attention, the highlight of the evening was her stunning saree-inspired ensemble, hand-crafted by 23-year-old designer and fashion influencer Nancy Tyagi.
Sharing photos on Instagram, Tyla praised the designer: “SAY YOU LUV ME PUT ME IN @nancytyagi___ Went to India for the first time, twin stayed up all night designing and hand-making this saree-inspired look… She is insane ilyyyy. Why this song banginggggg.”
Tyla’s Saree-Inspired Look
Nancy Tyagi’s creation was a mint-green, see-through ensemble that fused traditional Indian techniques with contemporary style. The outfit featured a pre-draped pallu, low-rise waist, figure-hugging skirt, intricate pleats, and a floor-grazing train with a thigh-high slit. Tyla paired the ensemble with a fitted bralette-style blouse with a plunging neckline and delicate spaghetti straps, adorned with glittering sequins and embroidery.
To complete the look, Tyla accessorized with embellished pumps, bejewelled nails, a choker necklace, dangling earrings, and a haath phool. She topped her ensemble with a gemstone-studded bindi, while her hairstyle featured intricate braids. Glam elements included winged eyeliner, feathered brows, shimmery eyeshadow, glossy lips, and a radiant highlighter, resulting in a sophisticated and glamorous appearance.
Nancy Tyagi’s Global Moment
Self-taught designer Nancy Tyagi, who gained global recognition after her Cannes 2024 red carpet debut, explained her creative vision for Tyla’s outfit:
“I designed this saree for Tyla as a way of bringing two distinct visual languages into a single expression. Indian technique carries a deep emotional history, and I wanted that lineage to sit naturally beside Tyla’s bold, modern, self-assured style.”
Nancy added that the structure, drape, and detailing were entirely hand-crafted, reflecting a balance between tradition and contemporary aesthetics.
This is not Nancy Tyagi’s first celebrity creation; in September 2024, she designed a stunning white gown for Ananya Panday during the promotion of her series Call Me Bae, further establishing her presence in international fashion circles.
