A serious case of abduction and sexual assault of a minor girl shook the Belpahar police station area of Jharsuguda district. Police confirmed the arrest of the accused youth soon after receiving the complaint.
Officials identified the accused as Shiba Nag (19), son of Jayaram Nag of Belpahad. On the evening of December 5, he allegedly lured a 16-year-old girl with false promises. Then he abducted her and took her to a secluded place, where he committed the crime.
After the incident, the victim immediately informed her family. Consequently, they lodged a written complaint at the Belpahar police station. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case and quickly launched an investigation.
Investigators arrested Shiba Nag under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 266, 137(2), 87, and 64(1), along with Section 4 of the POCSO Act. Moreover, police conducted medical examinations of both the victim and the accused to support the investigation.
Authorities stated that further inquiry is underway to establish all details of the case. Meanwhile, the arrest brought relief to the victim’s family. However, the incident also sparked concern in the local community about the safety of minors.
