Ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, two standout performers from India’s recent England series, Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj, are reportedly unlikely to be included in the squad, according to a Cricbuzz report.
Gill scored over 750 runs, second only to Sunil Gavaskar’s aggregate in a series, while Siraj claimed 23 wickets. Despite these performances, selectors appear to be favouring Yashasvi Jaiswal as backup for the opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson. Shreyas Iyer is also expected to miss out, while Suryakumar Yadav is fit and likely to captain the side.
In the bowling department, Harshit Rana or Prasidh Krishna may fill Siraj’s spot, with the spin attack expected to include Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, and Axar Patel (Vice-Captain).
India, defending champions, are placed in Group A with Pakistan, UAE, and Oman. The tournament begins on September 10 against UAE, with the marquee India vs Pakistan clash on September 14 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The final is scheduled for September 28.
