Shubman Gill missed Punjab’s Vijay Hazare Trophy clash against Sikkim in Jaipur today after suffering from food poisoning.
His absence immediately delayed his much-anticipated return to domestic cricket.
Both Gill and Arshdeep Singh were expected to join the Punjab squad for this fixture. However, Arshdeep arrived on Friday and secured his place in the playing XI. Meanwhile, Gill had to sit out due to illness, leaving Punjab without one of its star batters.
The match is being played at the Jaipuria Vidyalaya ground in Jaipur. Moreover, the venue remains closed to the public, with no streaming available for viewers. The ground, located inside the school premises, lacks seating arrangements for spectators. In fact, only BCCI delegates and students of the school and academy can access the small gallery above the changing rooms.
Gill’s absence disappointed fans who eagerly awaited his return to domestic cricket after his recent international commitments. Consequently, Punjab continues its campaign without him, relying on other key players to maintain momentum in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Team sources confirmed that Gill’s illness is temporary, and he is expected to recover soon. Furthermore, his return will strengthen Punjab’s batting lineup in the upcoming fixtures. For now, the squad focuses on securing victories in his absence.
